I grew up on a farm in West Tennessee, an hour north of Memphis and 30 minutes east of the Mississippi River. I received a B.A. in English at Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College). I met my husband there, and we married while Frank was in the Navy. I taught junior high students in SC and GA.
We have one daughter who attended Smoke Rise Elementary, and graduated from Woodward Academy and Berry College. She, husband Eric, and daughter Ryan live on a farm in Covington, GA. I am now retired after teaching 3 year olds at Embry Hills United Methodist Kindergarten for 21 years.
I volunteer as a member of the Stone Mountain Woman’s Club, the Friends of Stone Mountain/Sue Kellogg library, the Stone Mountain Historic Society and the First Presbyterian Church of Covington. I joined the staff of the Smoke Signal in 2009 after seeing an ad for a person to handle the flyer inserts. I had heard about the opening from Marty Bryan, who knew that I needed another “volunteer job”. I have learned a lot about the neighborhood and the area from working with this volunteer staff and would encourage other people to join us.
